At Parkwood Open Imaging, we have found that many of our patients are anxious about their MRI imaging session. In fact, 5% to 11% of patients scheduling MRI exams are known to suffer from claustrophobia. Another 7% experience claustrophobia before or during their exam. A total of about 30% of patients report mild distress.
To solve this problem, we utilize a modern high-power open-bore MRI. Not only does this give our guests as much space as possible, it allows for larger patients to be served as well.
A typical closed-bored MRI system will have very limited space. The tube extends the whole length of your body, and the surface of the system is about three inches away from your head when you’re inside.
Our system is short – only four feet long – which means that many exams can be done with your head outside of the scanner. And even if your head has to be inside the unit, the surface of the scanner will be almost a foot away, due to the bore diameter size of 70cm, or almost 28in.
Open-bore MRI systems are a relatively new technology. In the past, their advantages were offset by lower image quality. The larger bore meant that the magnets were farther away. This is no longer an issue. The scanner we use is much more powerful than earlier models, which results in both excellent image quality and shorter exam times.
In addition to state-of-the-art technology, our location is also very convenient. We are on 10 Mile Road, right off of I-696, only blocks away from Woodward Ave. Simply pull in, park, and come inside. There is no parking structure, and no complicated medical facility with different departments and units.
We work will all patients, both insured and non-insured.
When will I get my results?
The MRIs will will be sent to a radiologist, who will analyze your scan and report to your doctor the next business day. Your doctor will discuss the results with you. Upon completion of your office visit, you will be given a CD-ROM disc of your scan.
